ACADEMIC TITLE AND POSITION PhD / Lecturer
CURRENT ACADEMIC STATUS AND EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND Dr. Blerina Duka is a nurse, educator, and researcher with over 25 years of experience in the healthcare system, nursing education, and professional policy development. She earned her doctoral degree (PhD) in Nursing and Public Health from the University of “Tor Vergata,” Rome, Italy. She holds a Master of Science (Laurea Magistrale) in Nursing, as well as a professional master's degree in management, coordination, and teaching of health professions. Dr. Duka has extensive academic and professional experience in nursing and public health. Her main research areas focus on nursing competencies.
POSITION Head of the Department of Technical Medical Sciences at “Barleti” University. President of the Albanian Order of Nurses. External lecturer at public and private universities in Albania. Member of European and international nursing organizations, including ESNO and EFN, and participant in national boards and commissions on health professions education and regulation.
CONTRIBUTIONS Has made significant contributions to the development and standardization of professional nursing competencies, the formulation of health policies and regulatory documents, as well as the strengthening of nursing education and continuing professional development. Her activities also include scientific research at both national and international levels. She is the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals and an active participant with presentations at European and global conferences.
ACTIVE ENGAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENTAL AREAS OF INTEREST Her current activities include scientific research, university teaching, professional leadership, and the development of international collaborations. Her main areas of developmental interest focus on nursing competencies and professional self-efficacy, leadership and management in healthcare, health policies and professional regulation, the nursing workforce and migration, as well as the improvement of healthcare quality, patient safety, nursing education, and innovation in professional training.
